Ceramic Paint Workshop Toolkit

Finally, it’s here! The Ceramic Paint Toolkit. This toolkit and handout are designed to replace my online workshops via Zoom, which I have hosted for almost three years with great success. However, due to participants being located on all continents, the time difference sometimes makes participation challenging.
This comprehensive toolkit will guide you through the entire process, from preparing your wild clay to the final glaze firing. The good news is, you can follow the course at your leisure, meaning you no longer have to set the alarm for 3 am, as was the case with many participants.

In short: Learn how to make Ceramic Paint with locally sourced wild clay. Collect your own wild clay and transform it into usable pigments to color porcelain or stoneware using this toolkit. After completing this DIY workshop, you will have all the knowledge needed to expand your color library or start one!
Over the past 12 years, I have developed over 200 different colors and materials, all derived from wild clay and waste streams, using only 5 very basic recipes. The toolkit provides you with the tools to work with wild clay in a highly accessible way.

What’s included?

  • A beautiful handout, illustrated by the talented Lotte Dirks, with all the instructions, 5 recipes and firing programs (size 554 x 297 mm)
  • 4 porcelain samples, numbered and bisque fired at 1060 degrees
  • Basic materials to develop the recipes with (no wild clay, this you have to collect yourself)

What else do you need?

  • Wild clay (detailed instructions and tips can be found on the handout)
  • Painter’s tape
  • Very precise scale (0,1 gram)
  • Mixing bowls, spoons, brush
  • Very fine sieve (100 or 120 mesh)
  • Plaster batt
  • White clay (stoneware or porcelain) for slip casting ór throwing
  • A kiln to fire your pieces (up to 1260 degrees)
